Personal Statement Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational berrier you have faced. 1. As 8th grade year began my teacher Mrs, Mckinney told me that I would not transfer to Lindsay High School if I did not work hard that year. So I asked my teacher what could I do to get my stuff done and to promote to LHS. Well my teacher said there is an after school program that is focusing on students like you how are behind and need extra help. And as soon as she told me I signed up immediately and the next day I was staying after school getting my work done. It was a big step for me to do that because I always struggled in math but once I began to stay after school I began to understand it more and more. After 4 months of staying after school I was all caught up and not only that but I was also ready to go to LHS. 2. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? One of the hardest challenges I have faced so far in my academic career was in 8th grade when I was having trouble in math and I was at risk of not going to Lindsay High School. I immediately looked for a way to get help in math so that I wouldn't fall behind and graduate to LHS. My teacher told me that I could stay after school to get extra help in math and in other materials if i needed it. After that I began to stay after school every day until I was caught up and I was promoting to LHS. I worked hard and studied a lot to reach that academic goal I had set up for myself and at the end it paid off. 3. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you. My favorite subject is English because since I was small I always liked to read and learn new words. I have always been good at english because I love to write and read interesting stories every time I had class. English has made me into a better student and more intellectual as well. English has taught me how to write with correct punctuation as well as correct spelling. It has influenced me in becoming a better person and a better writer. 4. What is the one thing that you think that sets you apart from other candidates applying to the University of California? One thing that is setting me apart from other University applicants is that I like to give back to the community and I like to help in school events and outside of school as well. I like to be involved with the community and always be helping and giving back. For example if there is a food drive at our University I want to help and gather as much food as we can and get the word out so that not only I can be involved but the whole school. Therefore I believe that's what sets me apart from other students who are applying for this University.
Narrative Essay“ Goooool” as I screamed my lungs out after I scored first goal in the soccer championship. My adrenalin was high and I couldn't stop yelling nor running until I finally got to my teammate and he jumped ontop of me. But my happiness came to an end as the other team scored a goal on us and it was 1-1. As halftime reached I got a drink of water and got in a huddle to see what the coach game plan was for the second half. As he gave us the game plan the ref blew the whistle and we ran back to the field. And the ref blew the whistle and the second half began. As my teammate hit the ball to the goal, the goalie took it out and went out for a corner kick. As Roberto went to kick the corner kick I yell at him and said “ I open Robert, put it here” . And he gave me the perfect center because I heard it and it went past the goalie and I ran to celebrate with him and the feeling was the same. After that my teammate Roberto scored the third goal to give us the win 3-2.As the ref blew the whistle the whole team just ran to the coach and we huddled around him jumping and chanting “We are the champions” nonstop. Then they called us for the ceremony as we all got medals and then they gave us the trophy which was taller than me! As I was given the honor to lift the trophy I can't describe how great it was to win and worked so hard and it paid off. As I kissed the trophy and raised it above my head the whole team began to jump and scream of excitement and joy. The feeling is unexplaineble and it motivated me to becoming a better person and to always work hard. After that championship I am inspired in becoming a better person and always work hard in everything that I do. Because I know that with hard work and practicing I can reach my goal. This soccer final has changed my life in many different ways because I see how succes felt when we won that championship and it was just amazing. My parents have always told me to study and work hard in school and out because a hard working person always found a place in the world. I want to make my parents proud of me and always work hard and succeed in what I chose to do because I want to have the same feeling as when I lifted up that soccer championship. I will work hard and never give up to fulfill that dream of mine.I remember that soccer championship like it was yesterday and how I told myself how I am going to push myself into working hard and never giving up because at the end of the day it will pay off. I will never forget that championship. I will always use it as a motivation to keep going in life and working hard and at the end of the day make my parents proud of me.
